gcc-avr toolchain on Windows?

Postby rpu_bus » Thu Jan 18, 2018 10:02 pm

Is this now painless?

I got the Windows 10 version 1709 update, and it allows me to Install the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10

Then I can load Ubuntu (from the store) to run on WSL

https://www.microsoft.com/store/p/ubuntu/9nblggh4msv6

Then the AVR toolchain packages from Debian can be installed, just like on Ubuntu or Raspian (update everything first).

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install git make gcc-avr binutils-avr gdb-avr avr-libc avrdude
git clone https://github.com/epccs/RPUno
cd RPUno/Bootlaoder
make

Everything installed and I build the bootloader for one of my AVR boards. The 1709 update was long, it ran four hours to update my Win 10 system (i7-3820 @3.6GHz, 4 Cores, 16.0 GB).
